WINTER GETAWAY - SUN + DESERT TRAILS

 Palm Trees and Sun in the middle of winter, great food, laughs and an optional Olympic Marathon Trials viewing on the last  day

Key Retreats Palm Desert, just outside of Palm Springs and less than an hour from Joshua Tree, will be the ideal winter getaway whether you're coming from snow or just need to recharge on the desert trails. 
 
Each day will begin with breakfast by Chef Serena, yoga and stretching around the pool before you head out on the surrounding mountain trails.  
 Your guided daily runs will cover various areas of the Palm Springs and the surrounding Mountains.  If you can run or run/walk about a 10:00pace for an hour or are in decent shape (most of you are fitter than you think:) you'll be good for this retreat. We will run between 4miles and 12miles everyday with lots of stops for pictures and sightseeing and water. 
The Modern accommodations is made up of shared Casitas surrounding the pool and deck allowing for a group atmosphere while still having your own space  A hot tub will greet you after every run and lounge chairs will entice you to relax on your down time. That said if you want to explore, downtown Palm Desert is within walking or biking (cute cruisers provided by the Airbnb) distance and Palm Springs and it's amazing architecture is only 15 mins away.
 
Plan to leave in the afternoon of the 29th as we'll gather around the TV after our run and cheer on the women at the US Olympic marathon trials while eating brunch cooked by Chef Serena.
Each day will bring a different trail, relaxation and exploration. 
 Grab a friend or come on your own and meet new ones, this long weekend is going to combine all the things that bring us together, running, travel, yoga, great food, laughs and amazing people.

Each day will bring a new trail in the area. Be prepared to drive to some trailheads. This an intermediate level (10:00ish pace or faster for an hour easy run )   
Because downtown Palm Desert is so close, we will walk to a local pilates and yoga studio for a private session. 
Self Care is a continuous theme at Key Retreats. Reconnect with a guided session on goal setting and finding ways to win your inner battles with Courtney

running information

  • Running Level - Intermediate.   If you can run 10:00 or faster on your easy runs for about an hour than this retreat is good for you! That said we will not run for an hour straight as we will stop for photos, water, snacks and when it's a  steep hill we'll hike. Running is about taking it all in not performance. That said this retreat is geared more to running and getting out on the trails than other retreats. 

  • Trail Runs - Most of the runs  will be on trails that are mostly single track and hilly. If you are coming from a flat area, no worries we won't be climbing too high.

Meet The Team

Courtney Babcock

Founder:
 If there is one thing Courtney loves as much as running it's travel and bringing women together. She will lead all the runs during the retreat. Key Retreats is a way to check in with yourself, explore new places and connect with women on a shared adventure. We are brought together by running but the word retreat is an important part of your week. Relax, renew, refresh...Key Retreats.
Quick Bio: 
Courtney is a former pro, Olympian, Masters World Champ. A proud graduate of the University of Michigan, she loves to bring all levels of runners together and meet you where you are. The journey of running, what we learn about ourselves, who we meet and what we get to see is the focus of what Courtney brings to the retreats. Courtney is a mom of 2 boys, a wife and sometimes interior designer.  Originally from the Toronto area, she now calls Missoula Montana home. 

Chef Serena

Chef Serena will enhance your retreat with each bite of her amazing culinary delights. A graduate of the Cordon Blue culinary school in Pasadena ensures the food will as much of highlight as the running.
 
 

Tentative itinerary

Day 1 

Plan on a 3pm start time for the Palm Desert retreat. We'll gather around the pool shortly after everyone arrives to head out on the first run of the retreat. When we return we'll go over some form tips that we'll revisit over the weekend and go over ideas for strength work to add to your training. Dinner will be waiting upon our return and we'll take the evening to relax and get to know the other women. 

Day 2 

Following morning stretching and breakfast we'll head out on the longest run of the retreat where views will motivate you at every turn. Following lunch you'll have time to lounge by the pool or take in the sights of Palm Desert.  Mountain top sunset yoga and mindfulness will end the day before heading to Palm Springs for dinner. 

Day 3 

Another warm day in the desert and another trail to explore. Following the run we'll go over one of the most important parts of running, the mental game. Courtney will lead the discussion but group questions and ideas will be encouraged. Following lunch we'll walk to a local Pilates studio for a private session after which you can opt for a spa service (additional charge) or head back to the pool for the last afternoon. Dinner will be served on site as we conspire into the night with our stories of our shared adventures. 

Day 4 

We'll start our last run together before dawn to take in the rising sun over the mountains. From there we'll head back and gather around the TV to watch at least the second half of the US Olympic Trials Marathon. We'll eat  brunch, stretch, cheer them on in a perfect end to an amazing retreat.  (the trials will end around 11:30am. Plan to leave the retreat around noon)
